Advent IV, 2007

Preparations for Christmas are well under way. Thursday night the choir had a final rehearsal for the Carols by Candlelight which will take place tonight. After the rehearsal the Organist and his wife (who is also a Pastoral Assistant in the Parish) opened their house for a delightful Christmas Party which was enjoyed by all. Fr Mark and I spent a good time in church getting the church ready and moving some furniture around.

Friday saw the children's Christmas Party, part of which was carol singing. About thirty children filled the hall with their merry voices and a good time was had by all - well done to the Hendrys for all the organisation.

Saturday saw the decoration of the Christmas tree which was set up the night before by Richard one of our churchwardens. Douglas spent the good part of the morning putting up our lovely crib in readiness for the figures which will go in on Christmas Eve.
The flower ladies where very busy arranging all the flowers. The flowers are now under lock and key to be place in church tomorrow after the morning Mass.

Fr Mark celebrated the 8am Mass this morning attended by twenty people. Morning Prayer was followed by a short choir practice and then the 10am Sung Mass. I celebrated the Mass, Fr Mark and Fr Brian concelebrated. Attendance was very good. Josh lit our fourth advent candle and all the members of the Sunday school came out to help me open windows in the advent calendar. It was a delight to have baby Rachel back with us today after a difficult time in hospital.

As we get ready for Christmas I hope and pray that our hearts are being made ready too to receive the gift of Jesus on that most holy night of nights.
