The Year of Our Lord 2008

With the grace of God we embark upon a new year. We look back to 2007 with grateful hearts hoping that from the lessons we have learnt we shall grow in wisdom. Looking forward to 2008 we rejoice as here at St John's this will be for us a Year of Grace, celebrating our sesquicentenary from the dedication of our church. We shall launch this special year a month from tomorrow and by that time we shall also have a brand new web site that will contain all the details of this special year. We want to be a holy people, a learning people and a loving people; passionate about Jesus Christ and sharing his joy with you, especially through this blog, our splendid Parish Magazine and the new web site.

So we look to 2008 with hope and joy. That is why our first Mass for 2008 started with the hymn "Come down O love divine". We have asked the assistance of the Holy Spirit to whom we entrust our future.

More than sixty people attended the Sung Mass this morning celebrating the Octave of Christmas under the ancient title of Mary, the Mother of God. After Mass we all headed for brunch in the Parish Hall which was followed by a walk at Knole Park. Thanks for all who prepared the delicious food and especially to Mr Bonner who organised the walk.

As for now all I wish for you is the joy and peace of the Christ Child for the duration of 2008. Happy New Year!
