This afternoon the Archbishop of Canterbury led a service to commemorate the martyrdom of St Thomas Becket, his predecessor, in the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Canterbury.
The service was all in Latin except for the readings and the final hymn. The procession moved to the place of the Martyrdom where the doors from which the four knights entered was dramatically opened. After some silence the procession moved to the crypt and ended with the Archbishop's blessing. Later on tonight at 8pm the Roman Catholics will assemble at the Cathedral to commemorate the Martyrdom of this saint who laid his life for Christ and his Church.
