St Edith

In Sevenoaks today we keep the feast of St Edith of Kemsing (+c.984). In the Martyrology she is listed under the 16th day of September but because of the memory of Ss Cornelius and Cyprian, her feast is moved to this day. Edith was born in Kemsing and died in the moanstery at Wilton.

The Martyrology says: In Wilton, England, St. Edith, virgin, daughter of the English King Edgar. She was consecrated to God in a monastery from her earliest years, and it may be said rather that she never knew the world than that she forsook it.

On Sunday Catholics andAnglicans will join in pilgrimage and prayers at the well of St Edith in Kemsing.
