Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, Virgin (1647-1690)

Here at St John’s it is a day of intense preparations as we get ready to keep the Walsingham Day tomorrow. Please do support the event if you live near and are able, those of you unable or who live far away please support us by your prayers that the Holy Spirit may guide the whole day and inspire Bishop Lindsay.

Today we celebrate the feast day of St Margaret Mary Alacoque. This French saint had a passionate love towards Jesus since her infancy; in fact, she was a mystic at an early age. In the monastery where she served God, she had revelations by the Lord Jesus who encouraged her to spread devotion towards his most sacred heart. We see God’s love in the heart of Jesus opened wide upon the cross. Through that pierced heart, we receive the unfailing love of God.

It is in the heart of our beloved that priests find their strength and identity, it is in this sacred heart that all baptised find the springs of living water, it is in this heart that the whole of humanity can find refreshment and peace.

Let us joyfully run towards this heart as we give thanks for St Margaret Mary who pointed out afresh this inestimable treasure.
