The Christmas Novena

In preperation for the Christmas Novena which starts today pupils from our school and Sevenoaks CP had Crib services to get them ready.
At our school the crib service took the form of Collective Worship. The boxes with the new school crib were in the middle of the hall. The stable came out first then the figures, one by one, with helpers coming up to set up the crib as the story of the Holy Incarnation was retold. This was followed by prayers and the blessing of the new crib.
At the other school the pupils came to church. After an appropriate hymn, the story of Christmas was retold through a powerpoint presentation. At the end each pupil had a star and they were encouraged to write a prayer at the back of it and come out to lay it by the manger. I found this very moving indeed as I think the pupils and teachers found it too.
Today with the help of Mary and Joseph let us prepare our hearts to be the manger for Him who is coming soon.
