On Wednesday, we spent part of the day at Aylesford Priory, allowing Seminarian Chad Hart to start and complete his time with us under the mantel of Our Lady (Walsingham and Aylesford). It was wonderful to be able to venerate the relics of S. Simon Stock and to see the church buildings. The architecture is not immeadiately awe-inspiring but there is certainly a deeper sense of beauty and prayer which has hallowed the walls of the shrine and Priory grounds. Whilst there we began the novena (nine days of prayer before a feast) to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whose feast is celebrated on 16th July. A lamp now burns by the relics of S. Simon Stock for our parish and a second lamp will burn before Our Lady of Walsingham in S. John's to remind us of S. Simon and Our Lady's prayers for us. I hope to be able to post some photographs of the visit in the next day or so.
Those interested in praying the novena can find it here.
