Good morning from Birmingham where, last evening, I shared in the joy of the Oratorians as we celebrated Solemn Vespers of Blessed John Henry Newman. After Vespers was Benediction and then the opportunity to receive a blessing with the relic of Bl. John Henry Newman and to venerate it. The Shrine at Newman's Oratory in Birmingham is now complete and a fitting tribute to this important figure in the Church's life.
Vespers (in the older form of the Roman Rite) was attended by members of the Catholic hierachy of England & Wales and visiting prelates. There were also Oratorians and their faithful from all over the world. Truly universal!
There is one photo here and the rest can be viewed on my Flickr page here.
