A Year of Grace

As promised here is the post about our sesquicentenary.

On the 16th November of this year our church will have been consecrated for 150 years. The first stone was laid in April 1858 and the church opened and consecrated in November by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, John Bird Sumner.

We are marking this event by a whole year of activities called a Year of Grace. This special year will start on Candlemass (2nd February) and come to an end with a Mass of Thanksgiving in January 2009 followed by a Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February.

The activities are threefold: celebratory, didactic and kerygmatic. The whole point is a committment by the congregation to be a holy people, a learning people and a loving people. Last December John our bishop commissioned us for this year long celebration and handed over to us the list of events.

Today I will list the celebratory activities. Shortly I will upload the didactic ones.
