SS. Peter & Paul, Apostles

The day when we honour Peter and Paul started with Early Mass. Roger preached a very good sermon while I celebrated Mass. Fr Mark went to celebrate and preach at Higham. After Lauds and Choir practice everything was ready for Sung Mass with the participation of a very good number of people. After Mass the Bobs held a cake sale in the Hall to raise funds for the equipment they are seeking for their meetings amongst which a Wii. Parish Magazines and Forward plus were distributed after Mass. It was a joy to spend time speaking to people in the Hall especially new comers or those who have been away for some time.
After Mass Fr Mark and I visited the allotments and Claudia took the pictures that are attached to this blog. The allotments which are situated next to the church organised an open day to raise funds for charity. There is 11.5 acres comprising 200 holders and a growing waiting list. This site is a 100 years old. It was a pleasure to visit.
Following the visit I went to hospital where apart from the usual visiting I distributed Holy Communion. An elderly lady could recite all the familiar prayers from the BCP. It is so important to memorise prayers as they sustain people when they are not able to read any longer. Although a rich crop of prayers is a healthy resource there is much to say for some prayers that remain unchanged.
This afternoon too our Parish Cricket Team won against Pinewoods. Here are some pics that Carol took showing some action (Edwar Bonner batting) and the winning team. Well done St. John’s!
At 6pm we had Vespers and Benediction that was also well supported, a silent meditative time that brought to a fitting end a wonderful day.
