St Ignatius of Loyola, 1491 - 1556

The Examen of St Ignatius of Loyola

Today is the feast day of St Ignatius. Click on his highlighted name above to see an account of his life. Ignatius in his generodity left a lot of gifts toi the Church. Not only his order but also a rich spiritual patrimony which refreshed and led many souls to holiness. I propose to you on of these treasures. To memorise the five points and works on them is truly life transforming, they should take 10-15 minutes to complete.

1. Recall that you are in the presence of God.
2. Spend a moment looking over your day with gratitude for this day's gifts.
3. Ask God to send you His Holy Spirit to help you look at your actions and attitudes and motives with honesty and patience.
4. Review your day and see what motivated you in your words, thoughts and actions.
5. The final step is our heart-to-heart talk with Jesus.

St. Ignatius' Prayer for Generosity

Lord, teach me to be generous.

Teach me to serve you as you deserve;

to give and not to count the cost,

to fight and not to heed the wounds,

to toil and not to seek for rest,

to labor and not to ask for reward,

save that of knowing that I do your will.
