These last two days I was immersed in sermon preparation, study, visiting, meetings and preparing liturgies for things that are approaching very quickly. I had time to do nothing more.
These activities bring to the fore something essential about the life of a priest, but also a danger. In the midst of so many things to do one can quickly take his eyes off from Jesus and the power we receive from him. The beauty of the Mass and the Offices and other prayers sustains us, but how important it is to have daily time for meditation – of being and not doing.
I am looking forward for Meditation and Vespers in half an hour, a time to re focus and commit to God all the bits and bobs that take my time, in Him and Him alone they become whole and make sense.
